Join Our Team as a Communications Assistant Program Director!

We are looking for a dynamic communicator who is particularly gifted in writing to join the Institute for Social Concerns in our mission to grow justice, rooted in the common good. If you are skilled in wordcraft and excited to find and tell stories about engaging work in our community and around the globe, please consider applying!

The position will craft stories for the newsletter, showcase extraordinary programs, highlight research, and support the efforts to communicate the growing initiatives at the Institute. Superior writing skills are essential. A basic understanding of and experience with communications tools in social media, web, and graphic design will be helpful.

This position plays an essential role in the development and execution of the Institute’s communications strategy. The position will assist in the growing advancement and stewardship work as needed.

The start date for this position is anticipated to begin in early to mid-January at a mutually convenient date. The position may permit up to one day per week of remote work, in accord with the Institute policies and scheduling after the first 90 days.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Superior writing skills. Some communication, design, and/or marketing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and understanding of printing processes and terms; web publishing software (word press) and basic HTML code for formatting basic web pages; email campaign software (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Emma or similar software); Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or similar software to generate promotional designs.

Writing/editing/proofreading experience, preferably with the Chicago Manual of Style.

Working knowledge of Google Suite applications and database management skills.

Strong organization, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills including knowing when to elevate to the next level.

Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and to prioritize activities in response to changing circumstances and on-going deadlines.
