General Purpose: Stout is seeking a Manager to join our Intellectual Property practice within our Disputes, Claims, and Investigations group. The selected candidate will focus the large majority of their time on intellectual property matters including damages related to patent, copyright, and trademark infringement, as well as trade secret misappropriation in diverse industries covering a wide range of technologies. The selected candidate will be expected to assist with drafting expert reports, preparing analysis, managing teams, work closely with our senior intellectual property experts, and be an important point of contact for many client communications.
The selected candidate will need strong analytical skills and critical thinking, an ability to clearly convey ideas via written and oral communication, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and attention to detail. Our assignments can be fast-paced and deadline driven, requiring quick thinking and dedication to producing excellent work product. The selected candidate may also assist senior Stout practitioners with business development and marketing activities including the development of presentations, proposals, and/or articles.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review written reports, presentations, and graphical exhibits
- Oversee and participate in the day-to-day execution of engagements, with primary responsibility for coordinating and executing the engagement workplan
- Oversee and participate in the creation of engagement analyses, including financial analysis and modeling
- Oversee and participate in company, industry, and case-specific research functions, including technical, economic, accounting, and/or market research to support the basis for our analyses, assumptions, and conclusions
- Work with engagement leaders to strategize engagement approach; develop engagement workplans; oversee and monitor engagement progress on a daily basis; and report to engagement leadership on engagement progress and critical path items
- Manage document organization processes including the review, organization, and analysis of case documentation, testimony, court filings, and the identification of relevant information utilized for analysis
- Manage day-to-day activities of other team members
- Assist with the management of client relationships with and without supervision
- Participation in marketing and thought leadership efforts
- Assist with career development of other team members
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Significant experience in drafting expert reports
- Significant experience managing project teams
- Strong analytical and technical finance, economics, and accounting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Ability to critically analyze financial statements, accounting records, tax returns, and other financial documents
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work with changing client-imposed deadlines
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience working in a client service/professional services environment
Education and/or Training:
- 4-year undergraduate degree with a concentration in economics, finance, and/or accounting
- 4 to 6 years of relevant professional experience in damages quantification, preferably related to intellectual property disputes

For individuals assigned to work in California, Colorado, New York City, or Washington, Stout is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The range for this role considers several factors including but not limited to prior work and industry experience, education level, and unique skills. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
