If you are an undergraduate or graduate student in a major related to neural engineering, we'd love to have you intern with us! We are a large multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists engaged in groundbreaking research in applied neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and robotics. We are looking for a motivated and collaborative intern to support research and development of intelligent systems.
As a Neural Engineering intern...
- Your primary role will be contributing to algorithms and/or systems in one or more domains spanning neural interfaces, biologically inspired AI, connectomics, and the link between neural signals and human behavior.
- You will make an impact as a part of a multi-disciplinary research team, collaboratively conducting pioneering research with government and commercial partners.
- You will collaborate with engineers and scientists in human subjects research, machine learning, software development, and/or biomedical signal processing.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cognitive Science, Mathematics or a related subject area
- Have classroom or professional experience developing software and/or data analysis scripts
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Are able to obtain an interim Secret security clearance prior to reporting and can ultimately acquire a full Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Have conducted research on neural interfaces, biologically-inspired artificial intelligence algorithms, connectomics, or behavioral correlates of cognition
- Have developed and/or implemented machine learning algorithms applied to biomedical data, including but not limited to neurophysiological data

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
