This is a key role within the Research Support Team of the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. The post holder will be responsible to the School Research Manager, as part of the team ensuring that high quality financial data and research management is provided to the School.

About the role

The post holders will be key members of the School’s professional services team, providing administrative support for the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, Finance and Research teams and liaising with all staff, academic and professional services, in both the School, Faculty and Central Finance and Research services.

The post holders will work closely with the School Finance Manager and School Research Manager to support the processes and day-to-day administrative finances and research administration functions including  day-to-day financial matters, such as raising/querying, purchase orders, expenses, invoices, preparing and processing journals, maintaining the School Awards Report and finance and research SharePoint pages, collating information and preparing the monthly School Research newsletter, providing budget/grant reports along with basic research support for the departments across the School and assisting staff with updating their details on PURE.  

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 2 years. You will be expected to work on site at least 3 days per week.

 

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

 

Essential criteria 

  1. Minimum level 3 qualifications, e.g., NVQ3, HNC, A levels, AS levels, International Baccalaureate diploma or other Level 3 qualification, plus work experience in relevant operational/administrative posts OR Considerable knowledge and skills gained through work experience in relevant operational/administrative posts with a clear progression in increasingly demanding jobs 
  2. Clear spoken and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and influencing/behavioural skills with the ability to build contacts and relationships across the School and wider network 
  3. Solutions-focused self-starter, with strong planning and analytical skills, able to manage competing priorities and work with minimal supervision with the ability to work under pressure in a busy environment whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail 
  4. Finance and general administrative/operational skills along with experience in processing purchase orders, expenses, invoices, credit card reconciliation 
  5. Good knowledge of MS Office including Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint, Power Bi and use of email/internet 

 

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience of working in the higher education sector and/or a medical/clinical environment with a detailed knowledge of the regulatory, policy and procedural context along with the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector 
  2. Evidence of an active commitment to career development with the application of learning to the work context
