Job Description
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, the Instructional Support Specialist assists faculty and staff with the development of assignments, courses, and learning scenarios. The Instructional Support Specialist reports to the Director of the Center of Innovative Teaching and Learning.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) in the development of courses in all modalities (campus and online); present programs, conduct faculty training, and help the academic programs implement new technologies and approaches for learning.
Assist in the creation, implementation, and management of a curriculum of teaching-related professional development opportunities for learning strategies, pedagogies, experiential learning, assessment and research including but not limited to faculty learning communities, workshops, short courses, institutes, and trainings.
Provide training, technical assistance, best practices and support to enable the effective use of the teaching and learning tools, online resources, and technology by faculty.
Provide pedagogical support and basic troubleshooting and field basic questions related to the learning management system, and other instructional technologies supported by the Office of Teaching and Learning.
Serve as a liaison and represent the CITL by providing expertise to campus-wide teaching and learning initiatives and participating in collaborations that intersect with the work and promotion of JCSU CITL.
Provide support to faculty and teaching staff developing or implementing Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) projects and/or writing.
Conduct evaluations to identify areas for improvement and to assure CITL programming are effective and reflective of university/unit strategic plans.
Prepare and maintain records, statistical data, and assessment reports relative to the Center of Innovative Teaching and Learning.
Manage work-study and student employees working on projects, research experiences and experiential learning.
Qualifications
A Master’s Degree and/or experience supporting faculty in a higher education setting. Knowledge of learning theories, models and best practices of teaching, learning. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines with administrators, faculty and students. Excellent project development and management skills. This position requires a positive, self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal communication skills, eager to work in an environment that requires strong emphasis on providing superior support to faculty, students, staff, and community members conforming to the University’s mission and values.
